HUTCHINSON, Kansas -- The Jets remarkable playoff run continued Tuesday night with a 64-50 win over #5 seed Chipola (FL) at the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Jets, winners of five straight, were led by Darian Grant with 17 points while Gavin Barnard had 13, and Dontrell Yearby 11.
"I am so happy for our guys," said Jets coach Chris Gerber. "On Sunday, we didn't close the game like we wanted but tonight, we finished the game at a high level. I am so proud of our poise and composure down the stretch. It wasn't always pretty by any means but we got the job done. This group continues to meet the challenge."
The Jets built a 33-23 halftime lead and expanded the lead to 44-32 with 13:30 remaining. Chipola then cut the lead to 48-42 but at that point, Gavin Barnard took the game over.
The sophomore guard scored nine straight points for NOC Enid giving the Jets a 59-46 lead with :58.2 remaining.
Barnard added eight rebounds for NOC Enid while Darian Grant added seven. Grant was 6 of 10 from the floor for the Jets.
Both teams struggled from the floor, shooting 34%. The Jets made nine 3-pointers and were 13 of 14 from the line while Chipola made just three 3-pointers and were 9 of 18 from the line.
What's Next: The Jets (23-12) face defending National Champion Trinity Valley (TX) in the Elite 8 on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Trinity (29-5) advanced to the Elite 8 with a 78-75 overtime win over Monroe on Monday.
