MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- The NOC Enid Jets completed the three game sweep through the NJCAA Region2 Basketball Tournament Saturday with a 68-59 win over Western at Muskogee High School.
The Jets (20-13) won the region tournament for the first time in school history.
Sophomore guard Gavin Barnard led the Jets with 29 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Barnard was 8 of 9 from the floor and made all three 3-point attempts. He converted 10 of 11 at the line.
KeJaun Payne also reached double figures with 11. Riley Shore added five rebounds while Faris Mucharbach added three blocks.
The Jets jumped out to a 35-12 first half lead and never looked back. NOC Enid built the big with the three ball as the Jets made nine first half 3-pointers.
Western rallied late cutting the lead to 36-24 a half but NOC Enid kept the Pioneers at bay until a late Western rally cut the Jets' lead to 59-54 with 1:54 left.
The Jets made five free throws down the stretch to earn the 68-59 win.
What's Next: The Jets are in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson (KS) March 21-28. The bracket will be released March 16 at 5 p.m. The Jets will be making their second national title appearance, the first coming in 2017.
