Oryne Stewart scored three points Thursday night but they were the most important as his 3-pointer with :08.5 gave the Jets an 88-87 win over NOC Tonkawa Thursday night.
The Jets (16-11) improved to 5-8 in conference while NOC Tonkawa (14-12) fell to 4-8 in league play.
Darian Grant led the Jets with 21 points while KeJaun Payne added 19. Riley Shore added 15 off the Jets bench.
Payne had nine rebounds while Dontrell Yearby had five assists.
"I hhought we played really good at moments but still had some costly mistakes at big moments, but in the final minutes we were able to execute and players made plays when they mattered," said coach Chris Gerber. "Happy to get a win but three more games remaining just want to focus on the next game and finish the season the right way."
Thursday's game had 21 lead changes including 13 after the game was tied at 67-67 with 5:35 remaining.
The Jets broke an 81-81 tie on two KeJuan Payne three throws but NOC Tonkawa countered with a 3-point play giving NOC Tonkawa an 84-83 lead.
Trailing 86-83, Grant scored on a short jumper cutting the lead to 86-85 with :24.9 left. The Mavs made one free throw taking an 87-85 lead with :20.3 setting up Stewart's heroics with :08.5 left.
The Jets then made one final stop in the final seconds to earn the 88=87 win.
What's Next: The Jets host Seminole Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Mabee Center.
